Towards Incentive-Compatible Reputation Management

چکیده
Traditional centralized approaches to security are difficult to apply to large, distributed, multi-agent systems. Developing a notion of trust that is based on the reputation of agents can provide a softer notion of security that is sufficient for many MAS applications. However, designing a reliable and “trustworthy” reputation mechanism is not a trivial problem. In this paper, we address the issue of incentive-compatibility, i.e. why should agents report reputation information and why should they report it truthfully. By introducing a side-payment scheme organized through a set of broker agents we make it rational for software agents to truthfully share the reputation information they have acquired in their past experience. The theoretical results obtained were verified by a simple simulation. We conclude by making an analysis of the robustness of the system in the presence of an increasing percentage of lying agents.

Enforcing Truthful Strategies in Incentive Compatible Reputation Mechanisms
We commonly use the experience of others when taking decisions. Reputation mechanisms aggregate in a formal way the feedback collected from peers and compute the reputation of products, services, or providers. The success of reputation mechanisms is however conditioned on obtaining true feedback. Side-payments (i.e. agents get paid for submitting feedback) can make honest reporting rational (i....
متن کاملCONFESS -- An Incentive Compatible Reputation Mechanism for the Online Hotel Booking Industry
Reputation mechanisms provide a promising alternative to the traditional security methods for preventing malicious behavior in online transactions. However, obtaining correct reputation information is not trivial. In the absence of objective authorities (or trusted third parties) which can oversee every transaction, mechanism designers have to ensure that it is rational for the participating pa...
متن کاملIncentive-Compatible Escrow Mechanisms
The most prominent way to establish trust between buyers and sellers on online auction sites are reputation mechanisms. Two drawbacks of this approach are the reliance on the seller being long-lived and the susceptibility to whitewashing. In this paper, we introduce so-called escrow mechanisms that avoid these problems by installing a trusted intermediary which forwards the payment to the selle...

Choosing the best out of an increasing number of options requires reliable and accurate information. As our time and resources are limited, we commonly use the experience of others to take decisions. Reputation mechanisms aggregate in a formal way the feedback collected from peers and compute the “reputation” of products, services, or providers. They enjoy huge success and are believed to be th...
متن کاملRobust Incentive-Compatible Feedback Payments
Online reputation mechanisms need honest feedback to function efiectively. Self interested agents report the truth only when explicit rewards ofiset the cost of reporting and the potential gains that can be obtained from lying. Payment schemes (monetary rewards for submitted feedback) can make truth-telling rational based on the correlation between the reports of difierent clients. In this pape...
